Our History
In 1979, President Daniel J. Bishop, a self-made entrepreneurial success before the age of 21 with his janitorial company, Bishop Building Services, founded The Maids Home Services in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. With a four-person cleaning team and recognizable yellow company car, his cleaning teams quickly went national when he began franchising one year later.
Before starting The Maids Home Services, Bishop researched the cleaning process. Through time and motion studies, his research determined that the most efficient way to clean a home is in teams. By training each of his teams to clean according to a system based on four primary functions: dusting, bathroom cleaning, kitchen cleaning and vacuuming, his teams were able to clean quickly and efficiently.
In 1995, The Maids Home Services became the first residential cleaning company to clean for health. This was accomplished by using only environmentally-preferable cleaning products and a state-of-the-art backpack vacuum. The vacuum was developed especially for The Maids Home Services by vacuum manufacturer ProTeam, a partner with The American Lung Association. This resulted in the development of our unique 22-step Healthy Touch® deep cleaning system, which set new standards for quality deep-cleaning and revolutionized the industry.
In 2001, after countless consumer research studies, The Maids Home Services unveiled its line of Additional Home Services. Services such as carpet cleaning, window washing and same-day service cleans were added under the umbrella of The Maids Home Services’ name.
With over a quarter of a century of experience, The Maids Home Services continues to research the best ways to serve its customers. It continues to stay at the forefront of the home services industry and remains a model organization in the franchising world.
Since 1979, The Maids Home Services has proven itself a leader in the home services industry, thanks to its innovation, cleaning techniques and systems.
