What is VODEC?

VODEC is a private, non-profit corporation operating in multiple locations in the Omaha, NE and Council Bluffs, IA metro areas. It provides vocational and non-vocational day habilitation programs to persons with mental retardation and other disabilities, including mental illness.

Accreditation

VODEC has accreditation by CARF for Community Employment Services and Organizational Employment Services.

Background and History

VODEC incorporated in 1968 after being a program of the Loess Hills Area Education Agency in Council Bluffs. At first it provided only vocational habilitation services to persons with mental retardation. In 2002 VODEC began offering residential services with the merger of Care Homes Corporation. Also in 2002 persons with mental illness were able to participate in VODEC programs. In 2003, at the request of a group of parents of adults with multiple disabilities, VODEC opened a non-vocational day habilitation program, called Elm, for persons with special needs in omaha, NE. In 2004, VODEC opened a new location in La Vista, NE, providing both vocational and non-vocational (Elm) day habilitation programs.
