DaVita provides dialysis services for those diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, a condition also known as chronic kidney disease (CKD). We serve nearly 1255 outpatient dialysis centers located in 41 states and the District of Columbia, serving approximately 100,000 patients.
All this makes us the largest independent provider of dialysis services in the United States. Though we’re proud of this standing, we have set our sights on a higher goal. We want to be the greatest dialysis company the world has ever seen. And we’re accomplishing this through a shared commitment to our mission and values.
Mission and Values
The name DaVita is an adaptation of an Italian phrase meaning, “he/she gives life.” Everyday, in all of our clinics, we believe our name reflects our purpose.
Our Values—all seven of them—provide us with the set of guidelines to help us fulfill our Mission.
Our Mission
To be the Provider, Partner and Employer of Choice We are becoming the greatest dialysis company the world has ever seen through our commitment to upholding our Mission and Values every day, in everything we do.
Our Values
Service Excellence
Serving others—our reason for existing. We continually seek to understand the needs of those who depend on us (our patients, doctors, and our fellow team members) and then to exceed their expectations.
Integrity
We say what we believe, and we do what we say. We are trusted because we are trustworthy. In our personal, team, and organizational values, we strive for alignment in what we say and do.
Team
One for All, and All for One! We work together, sharing a common purpose, a common culture and common goals. We genuinely care for and support, not only those to whom we provide care, but those with whom we work shoulder-to-shoulder. We work together to pursue achieving our Mission.
Continuous Improvement
We never stand still; we are never satisfied. Individually, and as teams, we constantly look at what we do, and ask, “How can we do this better?” Then, we use a systematic approach to take action.
Accountability
We don’t say, “It’s not my fault,” or “It’s not my job.” We take responsibility for meeting our commitments—our personal ones as well as those of the entire organization. We take ownership of the results.
Fulfillment
We make a difference. We feel rewarded—personally and as a team—because what we do in our jobs is consistent with our goals and dreams. We believe “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” (Mahatma Gandhi). And, when you are the change, that’s fulfilling!
Fun
We enjoy what we do. We know kidney dialysis is hard work; but even hard work can be fun. We take our jobs seriously, but we feel a fun environment delivers better care to our patients while creating a better work environment for our teammates. We strive for excellence and we have fun.
The DaVita team

Amanda
“Feel free to ask ALL questions. There is never a dumb question!” says Amanda, an administrative assistant for two years at DaVita’s Derby Dialysis Center 837 in Derby, Kansas. Amanda relies on “the smiling faces of our patients,” to keep her going, and finds that at her center, “the patients and staff are more like our family. Our teammates have team building events that let us get to know each other personally.” When she’s not at work, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and her cat, Augustus.
Andrea
“I truly love what I do!” says Andrea, a social worker at DaVita’s Ocala Kidney Center East 402 in Ocala , Florida. She recommends that patients “learn as much as you can about ESRD and ASK QUESTIONS if you need help or information.” Andrea values the community spirit at her center, in particular, “the people who work here. They are truly team players—and the idea that hopefully I am making a difference in someone’s life.”
Cathy

Charles
Charles has worked as a biomedical technician for DaVita’s Ocala Kidney Center East 402 in Ocala , Florida for five years, and likes knowing that, “I play a part in helping people.” Based on his own life experience, Charles suggests that new patients “Hang in there. If you try to do what the doctors and the dietitians ask, you can live a productive life. I think if my stepmother would have had a choice between kidney failure and cancer, she would have chosen kidney failure.” Charles has a fiancée, Bobbi.
Estinily
Registered nurse Estinily is glad she chose to work in dialysis. Currently at the Dyker Heights Dialysis Center in Brooklyn , New York , Estenily appreciates the chance to “specialize in renal nursing and enhance my knowledge in an established renal company.” Her center emphasizes talking with patients and listening to what is important to them. Estenily is proud of the good nursing care they offer. In her free time, she socializes with friends, catches up on chores and tries to keep up with her teenaged daughter.
Jackie
Jackie has been a social worker for two years at three Florida DaVita centers: Celebration (170), Orlando (178) and Haines City (172). She stresses a personalized approach to providing active listening, education and emotional support, because, “Each patient is an individual going at a different pace.” These Florida centers attract many vacationing patients—and Jackie notes that, “Traveling patients tend to have anxiety, and it is a privilege to give patients a special time and increase their vacation enchantment.” She values the challenge of “making patients’, teammates’, and families’ lives better.”
Donna
“The compassion and professionalism of my co-workers and the respect I receive from my Administrator, co-workers, and patients,” are just some of the reasons that administrative assistant Donna likes working for DaVita’s Scottsdale dialysis center. In the dialysis field for 15 years, Donna enjoys coming to work every day because she knows that, “My contribution may put a smile on a patient’s face or make their day just a little brighter.” Married with three daughters, Donna enjoys spending time off with her family doing outdoor activities like camping.
Joyce
Joyce is a social worker at DaVita’s Ocala, Florida kidney center and a busy mother of five—including her most recent addition, two-year-old Hannah, from China. A self-described “adventurous spirit,” Joyce has a positive philosophy towards life and says her facility administrator, Rita, shares the same quality. “Rita keeps the enthusiasm high and her positive attitude and reinforcing values make this center special,” she says. Joyce encourages patients to, “Educate yourself as much as possible—ask questions and share your fears, apprehensions, and concerns.”
Monique
Patient care and reuse technician Monique urges new patients to, “Relax and rest assured that we have a wonderful team here at the Ocala, Florida center who will take excellent care of you!” When she isn’t at the dialysis center, Monique is currently writing her autobiography.
Gayle
A registered nurse who has worked in dialysis for three years, Gayle strives to make a difference in her patients’ lives. “Adhere to fluid and dietary restrictions, they’re for your own good,” she advises. Gayle is married, and has a small menagerie at home: a puppy, three guinea pigs, and a horse.
Loretta
Licensed practical nurse Loretta offers four pieces of advice to her new patients: “1.) Don’t be afraid to ask questions, 2.) Try to follow doctors’ orders about treatment and diet 3.) Do not miss treatments—you will feel better and 4.) Most of all continue to ask questions!” And she has experience to back her advice—Loretta has been working in dialysis for 22 years!
Shawn
Shawn, a licensed practical nurse, has been working in dialysis for seven-and-a-half years. Married with three sons, Shawn says, “…the love for my patients and job, and the need to be a good provider for my children…” are the motivators in her life. New patients can be optimistic about their future, says Shawn. “It gets better by the treatment. Socialize with staff and other patients often, and ask questions when in doubt.”
Sara
Originally from Tennessee, dietitian Sara came to California for a post-college summer vacation and never went home! She has been working in dialysis for 11 years and is currently at DaVita’s Norwalk, California center. She says of her profession as a dietitian, “I am optimistic and a good listener. We work together on nutrition and diet issues. I help patients to smile and find silver linings to the clouds. In the dialysis community, I help patients discover what to eat. I wrote Cooking for David: A Culinary Dialysis Cookbook with Dorothy Gordon, whose husband, David, was one of my patients. We created a website where anyone can access our Recipe of the Week and Helpful Hints for eating: www.CulinaryKidneyCooks.com. I know it has helped many people around the world and I have made a contribution.” Sara sums up, “I believe I am doing what I was destined to do—teaching, helping, and making a difference.”
Tempie
Tempie, an administrative assistant and patient care technician, has been working in dialysis for 14 years. Honored by her DaVita HEB center in Bedford, TX as a “Shining Star,” Tempie says, “I try to make the patients more comfortable: turn up the air so they won’t be cold, get drinks and snacks—it could just as easily be me in that chair,” she notes, “And I always try to remember how I would like to be treated and give the best care I can.” Married with three, “very active” children, Tempie enjoys reading, swimming, and spending time with friends.
Kathleen
Kathleen, a patient care technician for eight-and-a-half years at DaVita’s Pikes Peak center in Colorado Springs, feels her center is a great place for patients. “We begin each day with a ‘Good morning,’ and finish it with ‘Have a good day.’ We do birthdays, give the patient a sign, a balloon, and sing to them. It makes me happy to see that they are smiling when they come into the center and that we can help make it a more enjoyable place to be.” Kathleen believes that her greatest achievement is her job. “I love working with my patients and my teammates. I’ve achieved fulfillment of happiness with this company. I feel that without teamwork, any company would go under. I enjoy working for DaVita—DaVita cares about their workers and their well-being.”
