About Us

In 2000, Gail Werner-Robertson and her husband Scott began their mission of supporting families affected by this debilitating disorder. At that time, the state of Nebraska ranked as low as 48th or 49th in the availability of autism-related services and reimbursement for those services. Hope was minimal and the need was great.

Since its inception, the GWR Sunshine Foundation has been changing the landscape of funding available for treatment options and programs offered to those affected by autism. From the funding of groundbreaking pilot projects designed to develop the social skills of middle and high school students, to contributing to the recruitment of a nationally recognized expert in behavioral science, the Foundation has taken major steps forward in the battle against this debilitating disorder.

As the parents of four children, two of whom are autistic, Gail and Scott started the organization with one goal in mind, "To be voices for these children that cannot be their own voice; advocates out in the broader world and in our community so these kids can become all that we know they can be." -Gail Werner-Robertson
