Position Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide a safe setting and an environment in which treatment can take place. Demonstrate respect for and caring of all patients and their families through dedication in service to the best interest of each patient admitted to The Healing Lodge.
 
DUTIES:
  • Monitor status of patients on a continuous basis and interact with them in a professional and objective manner.
  • Maintain open and direct communication between staff and patients.
  • Facilitate patient interventions/mediations as needed.
  • Receive and direct communication as appropriate.
  • Transport patients to and from program activities.
  • Receive patient and unit assignments from the Shift Supervisors.
  • Document patients’ behavior, interventions, and interactions to the patients’ shift reports and Significant Incident reports as needed, and inform appropriate staff.
  • Review incidents with oncoming staff members via a written and verbal shift report at the end of each shift (Fast Tracking).
  • Support and adhere to The Healing Lodge policies, procedures, patient handbook, protocols, philosophy of treatment and the Healing Lodge Mission statement.
  • Treat patients and staff with respect as demonstrated through honest communications.
  • Accept supervision by communication with supervisor as well as with peers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
When asked to assume “lead” responsibilities for all or part of a shift the following may apply:
  • Act as the Shift Supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Lead shift operations by taking responsibility for all aspects of the shift including making assignments for specific needs of the shift and for ensuring staff follow protocols and procedures.
  • Prepare schedule for patients’ activities.
  • Prepare schedule for staff breaks.
  • Call for staff replacements as needed during the shift.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Experience and familiarity with the concept of disease, illness and injury
  • Familiarity with the 12-step program and principles
  • Ability to observe behaviors and document them in an objective manner
  • Ability to document patient information and observations in an articulate manner
  • Excellent time management skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Physical ability to take patients on outings such as hikes
  • Availability for HIV/AIDS, CPR, first aid, and other job related training
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to carry out detailed instructions
  • Act as a team player that is willing and able to participate as part of a clinical team to enforce team decisions and follow physician’s instructions
Preferred:
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record and ability to drive agency vehicles
  • Knowledge and experience in chemical dependency treatment and adolescent issues of health care
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Knowledge and background in Native American culture/spiritual aspects
