SUMMARY:

Candidate will be responsible for the architecture / design and day to day operations of UNIX and / or Linux environment and Oracle database server’s with failover and redundant data centers. They will also be expected to provide architecture solutions and enhancements for the environments, maintain and configure SUN hardware, HP Hardware, UNIX operating systems, Linux operating systems, maintain Zones, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle RAC and maintain Oracle environments in geographically dispersed data centers.

Candidate will be expected to support on-call rotation and work with existing on and offshore personnel in support of the environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure and upgrade Oracle server software and related products in a UNIX environment
  • Create and implement Oracle backup and recovery methods and disaster recovery methods
  • Database tuning for optimal performance to support business service levels
  • Design, test and implement Oracle high availability solutions
  • Establish effective database performance monitoring procedures
  • Control and monitor user access to databases and maintain database security
  • Allocate systems storage and develop plans for future storage requirements (Capacity planning)
  • Set up and maintain documentation and standards
  • Resolving development and QA database requests, and troubleshooting various database issues
  • Provides technical assistance and mentoring to staff

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • 5-7 years experience in Oracle High Availability solutions: Oracle 9i, 10g & 11g installations, administration, design, development, upgrades and data migrations, DataGuard, RAC and RMAN
  • 5-7 years experience with Linux/UNIX
  • Strong UNIX/Linux shell scripting experience
  • Extensive experience in SQL tuning and Oracle database performance tuning including SAN optimization
  • Proven diagnostic problem solving and solution development capabilities required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from accredited four-year college or university, or related certification;
  • Oracle and SUN certifications preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues in a strong team.
