JOB OVERVIEW

Responsible for assessing, planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and revising  educational programming and activities for hospital nursing staff across campuses including new employee orientation, clinical orientation and annual education programs. Leads the implementation of programs for nursing staff development. Serves as primary nurse planner for nursing continuing educational programs. Promotes consistency of nursing policies and procedures and process improvements. Responsible for developing and ensuring an effective preceptor program. Analyzes data and directs educational activities to improve patient outcomes. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements nursing education programs that maintain or enhance patient care across campuses.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs nursing education activities in concert with federal and state requirements, CARF and other regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and ensures an effective preceptor program to mentor new hires
  • Designs and implements a hospital based rehabilitation nursing orientation and education plan according to established Madonna and professional expectations and competency requirements.
  • Collaborate with nursing leaders for updating nursing policies and procedures utilizing evidence based practice.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of Madonna's nursing educational programs.
  • Assists in the coordination of nursing continuing education record keeping, attendance, compliance rates and individual (personnel) education files.
  • Reviews and assesses continuing nurse education curriculum for staff development and educational programs.
  • Assists the Training Program Manager in prioritization of educational offerings for all nursing staff.
  • Review needs assessment in conjunction with nurse leadership to identify competency needs.
  • Supervises Nursing Educators. Recruits, hires, coaches, conducts performance reviews, counsels and disciplines staff.
  • Instructs, trains and supervises new employees to department, environmental and policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President of Patient Care and other nursing leadership and stakeholders in establishing strategic direction for nursing orientation and the nursing education plan.
  • Instructs and supervises students and staff in educational situations to ensure accurate learning and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost, and social impact when developing and implementing practice innovations.
  • Participates and represents Madonna and/or the rehabilitation and nursing professions in activities. These could include Rehabilitation Week activities, Nurses Week activities, managers meetings etc.

    QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess current Nebraska R.N. licensure
  • Masterâ??s degree in Nursing Education preferred
  • Five yearsâ?? experience in the delivery and management of physical medicine and rehabilitation services required
  • Teaching experience with curriculum development, classroom engagement techniques and evaluation of leaning objectives and outcomes for adult learning required
  • CRRN required or must obtain within two years of employment
  • Must have current valid Nebraska driverâ??s license and submit a copy of current driverâ??s abstract reflecting a good driving record.
