JOB OVERVIEW

Responsible for providing leadership and direction for nursing on Madonnaâ??s skilled nursing patient care areas on a 24-hour a day 7-day per week basis.  Responsible for orientation, supervision, performance management, and continuing education of nursing staff.  Responsible for nursing quality and the development and implementation of quality assurance programs and improvements on assigned areas based on data collection, synthesis, analysis, and evidenced-based standards of care.  Participates in professional organizations and in Madonna sponsored activities. Is active and supports research activities. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and collaborates with team members to initiate new programs and care delivery models based on changing program needs.
  • Develops and coordinates operational change to meet new federal, state regulations or Madonna standards.
  • Coordinates medical record documentation changes to reflect current needs of the facility.
  • Assists in managing quality improvement data collection, analysis and outcome improvement strategies.
  • Maintains patient care standards and skilled nursing unit standards that reflect the latest nursing and research and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Designs and implements process improvements to meet productivity standards.
  • Plans, develops and adheres to operational and capital budgets for the hospital.
  • Monitors key nursing budget indicators and identify improvement plans.
  • Demonstrates leadership, mentoring skills and collaborative communications across disciplines, as well as internal and external parties
  • Meets deadlines for reports, performance reviews, program development activities, and projects as stated in policies or as directed by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for supervision and effective management of skilled nursing employees. Recruits and hires staff and ensures appropriate department orientation to set staff up for success. Clearly articulates expectations and monitors performance.  Provides timely feedback for improvement and engages in coaching and discipline as needed.
  • Fosters the learning and development of staff, identifying individual needs and providing developmental opportunities, assignments and training. Defines parameters and desired outcomes for employeeâ??s assigned responsibilities and allows staff latitude to complete work independently and learn from their mistakes. Devotes time to listen and provide mentoring and feedback for individual development.
  • Actively manages and effectively facilitates positive relationships between employees on the team.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, responding to requests and questions and communicating department and facility information in a timely manner. Follows up on ideas and suggestions from staff, communicating outcomes. Uses courage and tact to address concerns and difficult situations.
  • Provides leadership in the development and continuous improvement of nursing systems in which plans related to the delivery of nursing services can be developed, modified, documented and evaluated.
  • Provides direction to integrate Quality Assurance/Process Improvement activities related to nursing service and patient care.
  • Builds staffing patterns and grids according to established hours per patient day (HPPD) using projected and actual census levels, designs staff level mix, keeps position control for skilled nursing units. Coordinates employee requisitions and change of status requests for nursing staff.


    QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess current Nebraska RN license, BSN preferred.
  • Three yearsâ?? clinical experience and three years supervisor/management experience required.
  • Must possess sufficient knowledge and skill in the area of nursing to assess quality of service delivery, staff performance, and the regulatory and MDS knowledge of the long-term care facility.
