A Brief Overview
Performs payment, adjustment and error correction functions on patients/guarantors account.

Essential Functions

  • Post insurance payments and adjustments per Explanation of Benefits (EOB) detail, with appropriate comment codes in a repetitive manner into the billing system or other appropriate spreadsheet. Prepares payment posting batch per department specifications for the control process and completes any outgoing log tracking needed.
  • Revenue Cycle: Post all personal (self-pay) payments, checks and credit card payments into the billing system or other appropriate spreadsheet to include bad debt recoveries. Run credit cards through the credit card receptor. Prepares batch per departmental specifications for the control process and completes any outgoing log tracking needed. Distribute Health Reimbursement Account payments from Credit work queue Home Health: Prepare payment posting batch per department specifications for the control process and complete any outgoing log tracking needed. Prepare a report of invoices that need further work, print the EOBs for those invoices and provide them to the billing staff.
  • Revenue Cycle: Process insurance remittances to include system work queues as appropriate. Prepare batch(s) to include remittance and ACH deposit report for the control process. Problem solves ANSI 835 errors. Track error patterns providing suggestions to remedy the situation. Home Health: Perform eligibility checks and assist with demographic and insurance changes at the beginning of each month. Utilize resources to identify any insurance coverage we are not aware of. Alert Intake of changes in insurance as identified.
  • Analyze and resolve errors direct or through a vendor using CPT 4, ICD-9, HCPCS and other coding/billing resources as necessary.
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Required or
  • GED equivalent Required and
  • Associate's Degree in Billing, Coding, HIM, Finance or related field Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with commercial billing, government billing, or reimbursement processes Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the current healthcare climate, including managed care developments, HIPAA standards and governmental program regulations.
  • Knowledge of current coding practices in regards to billing and processing of Explanation Of Benefits. Insure that proper reimbursement has been received.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and write, perform non-complex arithmetic calculations, and perform data entry using a microcomputers at a level generally acquired through the completion of high school, plus up to six months of additional course-work in touch typing that may be acquired in high school.
  • The ability to use a Windows based computer system and common business software is desired.
  • Must have the ability to work independently to perform assigned duties effectively and efficiently. Must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, hospital administrators, billing office staff, insurance carrier representatives, and the public in both verbal and written formats.
  • Typing speed of 45 wpm.
