The Data Engineer supports the Distribution Planning Engineering team by providing data pipelines, analytics, and solutions to achieve innovation and gain insight into large data sets. The Data Engineer will work to enhance processes in modelling, analytics, visualization, and automation to further augment the abilities of the department to plan and execute an affordable, reliable, and environmentally sensitive distribution grid.
1. Support analysis of the distribution system to ensure economical and reliable service for the OPPD's customers.
2. Define, develop, and optimize techniques to gather, transform, analyze, and visualize data using automation and streamlined data pipelines
* Work with large and complex data sets to derive useable insights
* Improve the distribution system model through automation and enhanced data sets
* Capture and combine an assortment of data from a variety of sources and identify new or experimental frameworks to collect or extrapolate absent data.
* Help build creative visualizations that effectively communicate detailed insights and results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Work to automate manual tasks to allow time and focus on higher value work.
* Determine new analytical methods for representing the distribution system.
3. Support the study of and build trends for emerging topics in the electric utility space including distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI)
4. Support creation of an integrated system planning model that balances generation, transmission, and distribution needs
Required:
* Four (4) year Bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, mathematics or related major
* Experience in data analytics or data engineering related to technical topics
* Mastery of common data management tools and SQL
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
* Familiarity with R, Python or similar programming languages
Desired:
* Expertise in Tableau or related data visualization software
* Previous experience with industry standard power system analysis software
* Experience with Geographic Information System
* Experience related to the electric utility industry and knowledge of power delivery systems and infrastructure
* Computer science or mathematics experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, and other advanced techniques
