Position Summary
The Research Development Specialist position leads a dynamic team of faculty investigators in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center (FPBCC) to develop innovative scientific proposals that reflect to the funding agency priorities and the funding announcement’s intent and is aligned with FPBCC’s mission. Primary focus is on expanding a portfolio of cancer-focused NIH grants. This position will work in a rich scientific environment within the FPBCC and the University of Nebraska Medical Center and closely interact with colleagues, graduate students, postdocs and faculty members to help coordinate strategic research projects by facilitating teamwork and meeting deliverables to enable new funding opportunities. The position will also work with junior investigators to develop R01 and the like applications.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required Education: Master's degree

Life Sciences , Chemistry, Engineering, Physics or related field.
Required Experience 3 years

Experience coordinating multiple scientific projects to include writing and submitting scientific proposals.

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge understanding, writing and editing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate compelling and impactful science.
Adept at working in interdisciplinary scientific teams.
Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines.
Problem solver, confident, proactive and resourceful.
Good interpersonal skills and follow through to build strong relationships and trust with faculty.
Ability to put team first and incorporate ideas from other faculty.
Team player, good listener and flexible.
Ability to effectively coordinate teams of 3–6 faculty, and occasionally teams of 10–15 faculty.
Proficient with MS office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint), MS Windows, audio/video equipment, and online collaboration tools (e.g., Google Docs, Dropbox, Onedrive).

Preferred Education: Doctoral degree

Ph.D. or terminal degree in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or related technical field.

Preferred Experience:
7+ years’ experience and successful track record writing and submitting winning scientific proposals.
Experience serving on grant review panels and coordinating scientific projects and teams to produce high quality results.
Effectively coordinate multiple projects, set schedules, and track items to completion and highly organized.

Advanced understanding of medical and scientific terminology, especially as it relates to oncology and biomedical basic and clinical research. Knows and understands the applicability of the Code of Federal Regulations and guidance documents from the FDA, OHRP and ICH on research with human subject.
