Network Engineer
Overview:
The Network Engineer provides support to the program's Network Architect in installing, configuring, operating, monitoring, and maintaining the program's network infrastructure and associated IT systems. The role also involves implementing security measures to achieve Authority to Operate (ATO), optimizing network hardware performance, monitoring the network for potential issues, supporting incident and problem management, and performing root cause analysis. As the system grows over time, the Network Engineer will assist the Network Architect in designing and implementing the program's network systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Network Infrastructure Support: • Assist the Network Architect in designing, installing, configuring, documenting, operating, monitoring, and maintaining the program's network devices and connectivity.
2. Network Optimization: • Collaborate with the Network Architect to review and analyze system hardware and software, providing recommendations to improve and optimize the program's networks.
3. Network Device Analysis: • Provide analysis of data center network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls in the context of mission applications.
4. Network Design & Security: • Participate in network design reviews and security testing for the customer's networks.
5. Compliance & Security: • Support program security compliance by ensuring network security standards are followed and implemented correctly.
6. Network Device Configuration: • Configure network devices and collaborate with security engineers to harden network infrastructure.
7. Documentation: • Prepare and review technical documentation, ensuring completeness and providing recommendations for improvements.
8. Monitoring & Reporting: • Monitor and coordinate network monitoring activities and provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
9. Inventory Management: • Execute inventory audits of networking equipment to support wider property management requirements.
10. Troubleshooting & Support: • Troubleshoot and resolve networking issues, communicating solutions to stakeholders, including the Customer PMO and Users.
11. Continuous Learning: • Maintain current knowledge and expertise in networking and security best practices. Education & Experience Qualifications:
Education: • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience: • 5+ years of hands-on experience in a network support role or a similar technical environment, including experience with: Spine-Leaf architecture built using EVPN-VXLAN framework Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) Policy-based routing, QoS, and Access Control Lists (ACLs) VLANs, VLAN Trunking, Port Channels, and Spanning Tree Network device configuration and maintenance Network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools Network security measures management/implementation
Security Clearance: • TS/SCI with CI Poly Certifications: • Required:
Sec+ certification
Desired Certifications: • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.
Desired Skills and Technical Expertise: • Experience with various networking operating systems (e.g., Sonic, Cumulus). • Familiarity with Dell switches and/or NVIDIA Spectrum-X switches. • Basic knowledge of Kubernetes, Ansible, or other system languages/scripting. • Experience with automated tools.
